Under the patronage of  H.E. Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Energy, Kingdom of Bahrain, The Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) in Cooperation with Japan Cooperation Center Petroleum (JCCP) and National Oil  and Gas Authority (NOGA) is organizing a conference on:

“Latest Advancements in Refining and Petrochemical Industries”

The conference will be held at Ramee Grand Hotel & Spa, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain from 17 to 19 April 2016.

The conference will provide an excellent opportunity to meet with fellow delegates, experts and representatives from the member countries, JCCP, NOGA and some Arab refining and petrochemical companies who will submit papers and case studies on the experience gained in the field of energy conservation in the oil refining industry globally and in the Arab countries. The conference also includes a site visit to BAPCO refinery and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC).

The conference will focus on latest advanced technologies and optimization solutions in the downstream industry. The conference will also include a review of the current and future outlook of the refining and petrochemical industries, as well as case studies of major upgrading  projects from across the world. 


The main topics of the conference are:

  • Current and future outlook of the world refining and petrochemical industries.
  • Challenges facing the refining and petrochemical industries.
  • Latest developments in refining and petrochemical process technologies.
  • Advanced process technology for upgrading the bottom of the barrel to higher value fuels and cleaner refined petroleum products.
  • New trends in refining and petrochemical integration.
  • Performance and profitability improvement programs in refining and petrochemical industries, such as energy efficiency management, corrosion management program, reliability and maintenance programs, cost reduction strategies, health, safety and environment management system, and dealing with more challenging crude oil and other feedstock.
  • The role of research and developments in improving the performance of refining and petrochemical industries.
  • Success stories and case studies of new refining and petrochemical upgrading/expansion projects.

Speakers are most welcome to submit their abstracts as soon as possible.

An extended abstract of the presentation, or power point slides should be sent before end of March 2016, in order to integrate it to the abstract booklet.

I. Presentation Guidelines:

Language: The presentation will be delivered in English. 20 minutes will be allocated for each presentation, followed by 5 minutes discussion.

Format: The standard presentation format is office 2007 Power Point and a laptop will be provided on the desk.

Content: Please try to provide as much insight and knowledge upon your topic area, for the audience.

Imagery: Wherever possible please use graphics and pictures to help describe your presentation content.
Font: Please use Arial or Times New Roman font, wherever possible.
Titles: Slides should ideally feature titles above 36 font size, to be easily readable to the whole audience.
Font Size: Please keep normal text within your slides above 24 font size.
Bullet points: Please keep any bullet points above 24 font size and limit the number of bullet point per slides to a maximum of 6.
Number of slides: An appropriate number of slides for a 20 minute session should be on average 15-20 or 1 slide per 2 minutes of your presentation.

II. Abstract Typing Setup:

The Abstract should contain the following items: (Times New Roman- Font Size 14 Bold)

  • Title of paper
  • Name of author
  • Place of work
  • Introduction: Provide brief background information and the motivation of the paper.
  • Key Features: Outline the key aspects that will be discussed in your paper. Tables and figures can be included.
  • Conclusions: Outline the conclusions that will be made in your paper.

III. Speaker’s Biography:

Provide a short biography for the speaker, Times New Roman Font Size 14. This section is not to exceed half a page length.
