III. NUCLEAR ENERGY
The number of nuclear power reactors in operation worldwide
reached 435 reactors in 2011, with a total design capacity of 368,791
MWe, along with 65 reactors that were under construction with a
total capacity of 619,62 MWe.

The
UAE
is pushing forward to utilize nuclear energy, Korea
Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) has announced that construction
work on four- UAE nuclear power plants will commence on July
2012,
a date that was
four months earlier than had originally been
planned, with completion scheduled for 2017- 2020. KEPCO would
begin talks with the UAE in 2013 to build another 4 nuclear plants

that could be completed by 2021.
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) officially
commenced the construction of the UAE’s first nuclear energy plant
in July 19 2012, by pouring the first nuclear safety concrete for
Barakah Unit to the west of Abu Dhabi.
ENEC has also awarded contracts worth $3 billion to 6 global
companies to supply nuclear fuel services for the UAE
