The
UAE
has taken a unique step in this regard, as a coal- fired
power plant worth $408 million will be constructed by Utico Middle
East and coal power company Shanghai Electric in the emirate of Ras
Al Khaimah (RAK) in the UAE.
An agreement was signed in RAK between the two companies,
for the construction of the power plant, which will generate 270 MW
of power, and has been slated for completion in 2015. One of the
prime focuses of the project would be on aiding the development and
economic growth of the region, while creating jobs and opportunities
for the people. The project, which will utilize clean coal fired
technology, is also expected to lower power tariffs in the emirate. The
project will be a milestone development in Ras Al Khaimah as clean
coal- fired energy is acknowledged to be even cleaner and greener
